A Story of Faith.

(as recalled from a sermon of Fr. Paul, St. Benedict Church)

A farming community was experiencing a crop-growing season in which weeks had passed without rain. This situation was growing critical and was of great concern to the entire community. They were experiencing a drought.

At Sunday mass, the priest announced there would be a special outdoor service to pray for rain. He asked the people to bring articles representing their FAITH in God answering their prayers to the service.

On the day of the service, the faithful gathered in a field to pray for rain. The people had brought articles of their Faith in God answering their prayers. Such articles of Faith included many Holy Cards, Bibles, Missals, Crucifixes and Rosaries among others. As the prayer service proceeded, the skies began to change color. And, as if on cue, when the service was ending a light rain shower began. The people celebrated and thanked God for answering their prayers. And, the rain continued to moisten the ground.

As the priest looked at the group of faithful, each with their own article of FAITH, he noticed something standing out above all others. It was a young child holding an umbrella.
